”New Town Anting” Shanghai

Anting New Town, with 25,000 inhabitants, is adjacent to the international vehicle city in the greater area of Shanghai. Building on a master plan of Albert Speer & Partner, several architecture firms were asked to design a part of a town which should transmit the image of a 'German town'. The quarter with 90,000 m2 gross floor area incorporates the concept of the street and courtyard, that is public and private, which appears in both German and Chinese urban culture. Chinese living habits and traditional living layouts were to be considered, together with the local climate and the applicability of local constructional methods and architectural interior finishing standards.
