University Library Magdeburg

The new library forms the link between the university and the city. Based on the principle of a folding concrete band, a spatial continuum has been created, which can be characterized as a reader's landscape, hence defining the content of the building. The various departmental libraries on the upper floors are connected to the check out, magazine and user areas at ground level. The central atrium allows for a clear orientation and access to all library spaces. The prominent concrete band binds together the differentiated facade fillings, as defined by the respective functional areas.
