With its distinctive, elevated roofscape, the new Civic Forum emerges as a prominent urban landmark in Schleswig. Positioned between two adjoining squares, it creates a compelling link between the city’s intimate alleyways and its more expansive urban spaces.
The ground floor accommodates a citizens’ service center, a mobility hub, and a library. The library extends across all levels, featuring a café and a forecourt that can also support events. A spacious staircase connects the floors, while a central atrium offers orientation and visual continuity.
The adjoining parking structure is conceived as a split-level facility with 500 spaces. The natural slope of the terrain is strategically utilized to integrate an additional parking deck. With its modest height and modular retail units at street level, the building fits harmoniously into the urban fabric and adds vibrancy to the neighborhood.
The Civic Forum is constructed using a timber post-and-beam system with timber-concrete composite slabs. Its roof structure recalls the traditional truss forms of half-timbered buildings. Clad in locally characteristic red brick, the façades and roof form a material connection to the townscape of Schleswig.
