Ground-breaking ceremony for the Mechanical Engineering Campus in Garbsen, Germany
Mechtild Freiin v. Münchhausen presentation for communication and marketing, Leibniz University Hanover (excerpt)The construction of the Mechanical Engineering Campus in Campus continues: with a symbolic ground-breaking ceremony on the 4th of December 2015 at 11 o'clock, the second construction stage of the "Campus Maschinenbau Garbsen" (CMG) and the Research Building "Dynamik der Energiewandlung" (DEW) began. Present were the University President Prof. Dr. Volker Epping, joined by Dr. Karl Eugen Huthmacher from the ministry of education and research (BMBF), Gabriele Heinen-Kljajić, Lower Saxony Minister for Science and Culture, Dr. Christian Grahl, Mayor of the city of Garbsen, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Seume, Dean of the Mechanical Engineering Faculty, as well as Dipl.-Ing. Moritz Auer of the executing architecture firm Auer Weber from Munich. "The new construction for the mechanical engineering faculty in Garbsen is a further milestone of the development process of the Leibniz University in Hanover", says Prof. Dr. Volker Epping, president of Leibniz University. (…) "Around 5300 students and employees will learn, teach, and research here." (…) The planned new construction is adjacent to the Produktionsteschniche Zentrum Hanover (PZH) and is only separated by the road "An der Universität". The seven technical institutes of the PZH, opened in 2004, will be joined by the eleven institutes of the Energy and Process Engineering as well as Construction and Development once the second construction stage is completed. Seven new buildings will be placed on the nine hectare site. The general planner team lead by the architecture firm Auer Weber placed them around a green common: three institutes, a research building (DEW - Dynamik der Energiewandlung), an auditorium, a mensa, a seminar and communications building with workshops (SEKOM) for the students as well as a technical building. Around 20.750 m2 usable surface area for the Mechanical Engineering Faculty will thereby be provided to the city of Garbsen by the client, the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University. In future, mechanical engineering, the third strongest faculty of the Leibniz University, will be present here in its production, research, and its diverse subjects in one location. (…) The new CMG project with the research building DEW is to be completed in the Winter semester 2019/2020. The total cost of the state and association funded construction project are projected, including installations, at 142.9 million euros. These are composed of the costs for the CMG at 101.4 million and the DEW at 41.5 million euros. The state supported research construction project DEW also includes one large piece of equipment - a compressor station for the dynamic propulsion of turbo machines and power station testing bench, which costs approximately 15.2 million euros.
