“Voil’Odrome” Olympic Yacht Harbour in Marseilles
Léon Grosse (construction firm), Auer Weber, and Panorama Architecture (local partner) were one of the four teams to reach the final round of the Design & Build Competition, held by the city of Marseilles for the modernization of the Stade Nautique du Roucas Blanc as the venue for, among other things, the sailing regatta of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.
In reference to the history of the location, our design is an interpretation of the form of an amphitheatre and fits quite naturally into the environment. The “Voil’Odrome” enters into a spatial and social relationship not only with its immediate surroundings but also with the sweeping coastal landscape of the Mediterranean. In this respect, functionalism, sustainability and progressive qualities are of great significance. Unfortunately, we failed to gain the commission for the design of the marina by only a narrow margin. The competition was won by a French team.
