Official opening of LILLIAD

In the course of the ceremony a commemorative plaque was unveiled, guided tours were given and speeches delivered, among others by Jean-Christophe Camart, the president of the University of Science and Techology in Lille, Gérard Caudron, the mayor of Villeneuve d’Ascq, and Damien Castelain, the president of the Eurometropolis Lille.

Stephan Suxdorf lead through the building, which consists of the refurbished and remodelled library of University Lille 1 – originally designed by Noël Le Maresquier in 1965 – and a new extension: an area for events, with auditoria and an exhibition, as well as a cafeteria, the Experimentarium, and spaces for administration and logistics. In total, the new Learning Center “Innovation” extends over approximately 10,000 square meters.
