Olympic Park – On the Way to World Heritage Status

The discussion “Olympic Park – On the Way to World Heritage Status” will take place today, Monday, October 20, at 6:00 PM at the Kulturhaus Milbertshofen, Curt-Mezger-Platz 1. Munich’s City Architect, Prof. Dr. (Univ. Florence) Elisabeth Merk, will speak with architect Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Fritz Auer about the future of the Olympic Park. As a partner at Behnisch & Partner, Fritz Auer played a key role in designing the venues for the XX Olympic Games in 1972, most notably the iconic tensile roof structures.

Following the discussion, the City of Munich’s World Heritage Olympic Park team will present an overview of the nomination proposal. Further focal points include the nomination process and the development of the World Heritage Management Plan. At thematic tables, interested citizens will have the opportunity to contribute their ideas, followed by a Q&A session.

Munich’s Olympic Park was constructed between 1967 and 1972 for the XX Olympic Summer Games and covers an area of approximately 290 hectares. In December 2023, the Olympic Park was added to Germany’s tentative list for UNESCO World Heritage nomination.
