Airport Academy, Munich

The Airport Academy building is meant to play an emblematic role in the LabCampus at Munich Airport. A distinguishing feature of this new training centre is its expressive two-storey-high concrete lattice frame truss, which bears the load of the upper three storeys along the edges of the ground-floor plan. In this way, it generously opens the structure below for the purposes of the academy. The formal design is derived from the striking runway geometry, which distinguishes the aerial view of Munich Airport from that of other airfields. A dominant feature of the location is transferred to the design and converted into an equally formative element of the new building.
