Amazon House in the Wilhelma, Stuttgart

Wilhelma in Stuttgart is not only a zoo but a botanical garden as well, making it unique in Germany. The Amazon House, a walkable greenhouse located at the fringes of the historical park, offers visitors insights into rainforest habitats. Toward the park, it shows a large, vaulted glass shell, the spaces for the zoo keepers being placed along a massive back wall toward heavily trafficked Pragstraße. The visitor route, laid out as a discovery trail, leads to howler monkeys, waterfalls, and caimans as well as to strategically placed lookouts into the tropical world of plants and animals.
