Bildungscampus Heilbronn, Building 14, 15, 17
Institute Building for the University of Heilbronn and the Rector’s Office
The site of the Education Campus North, reduced in area from that of the master plan, has a somewhat higher density than the earlier stages of construction. In 2019, two buildings linked by a bridge were erected for the Department of Economics and Transport and for the rector’s office. Lecture halls, seminar spaces and workrooms are grouped about four-storey atria. In the basement of the larger building is an ample lecture hall and on the upper floor the rectorate of the University of Heilbronn. The white-plastered, load-bearing structure internally has a strong influence on the appearance of the atria. Generous spaces and scope for use facilitate varied learning programmes.
Library Building LIV
The special importance of LIV (learning, informing, interweaving) is evident in the fully glazed facade and the particular height of this building. While LIV is integrated in the overall campus through the outer cubic form, the interior here aims at an individual design which distinguishes itself from that of the institute buildings. The spatial impression is determined not by the layout of bookshelves, but by volumetric forms and voids set freely in space. Individual locations, group workspaces and a generous learning environment on the first floor provide scope for more than 600 students every day with opening times up till midnight.
