Primary school Karl-Marx-Ring, Munich

The growing population of Munich’s Neuperlach district and the poor condition of the existing school prompted the city of Munich to build a new elementary school with five classes, a canteen and a nursery, as well as a triple sports hall and a public music school. The new school centre is divided into three independent structures that are staggered in height and grouped around a central schoolyard. This arrangement takes account of the concern to preserve the existing green spaces as far as possible. The choice of materials also underlines the claim to a sustainable school project, in particular the clinker brick facade, which combines the individual building blocks into an overall picture.
