Iron Bridge Regensburg

The new 'Eiserne Brücke' ('Iron Bridge') replaced a long-time provisional connection, and creates, with its structural and materialistic differences, a dialog with the large mediaeval 'Steinernen Brücke' ('Stone Bridge') over the Donau. This opposition enriches the river landscape of the old town. The three bridge sections were assembled on a wharf, transported by ship to the location and using a floating crane placed onto the supports. The bridge level is an especially slim slab, the loads of which are transported by simple arched beams directly onto pillars and abutments.
