New University Campus of the HSPV NRW
The new site of the University of Applied Sciences for Police and Public Administration in North Rhine-Westphalia (HSPV) in the newly developed Funkenberg Quarter in Herne will accommodate 5,000 students on 32,000 square metres.
The central square, via which the buildings are also accessed, forms the focal point of the campus as a communicative hub. The building ensemble is arranged around it, and consists of the teaching building, the central administration building and the multi-purpose building with its canteen and library, all of which open onto the square via spacious colonnades.
The teaching building, which with its five storeys forms the largest block, houses the students' course and work rooms as well as the lecturers' offices. The central administration building appears as a slender, three-level block that closes off the campus square to the southeast. While the two buildings frame the new campus square, the third structure with the canteen, library and multi-purpose room opens up to the surroundings as a free-standing cube and with its square floor plan emphasizes its central position within the campus.
