19 verschiedene Nationalitäten sind in unserem Büro vertreten. Diese kulturelle Vielfalt bereichert unsere Arbeit! Entsprechend war das Interesse groß, als Dr. Markus Speidel, Migrationsforscher und Leiter der Sammlung Stadtkultur des Münchner Stadtmuseums im Rahmen unseres Auer Weber Forums zu Gast war – ein Format, in dem wir abseits vom Tagesgeschäft regelmäßig den Blick über den Tellerrand der Architektur richten. Kaum ein Thema ist derzeit politisch stärker aufgeladen als das Thema Migration. Dem verbreiteten negativen Framing des Begriffs hält Dr. Speidel entgegen, dass die Kultur und Geschichte unseres Landes – die einige durch Zuwanderung bedroht sehen – tatsächlich bereits seit Jahrzehnten von Migration geprägt ist und wir längst in einer Einwanderungsgesellschaft leben. Migration sei somit nicht als kritischer Ausnahmezustand, sondern - im positiven Sinne - als Normalfall der Geschichte zu verstehen. Wir danken Herrn Dr. Speidel für seinen anschaulichen Vortrag, der vor allem eines deutlich machte: Migrationsgeschichtsforschung kann einen wichtigen Beitrag leisten, Migration informierter einzuordnen und die Diskussion darüber ehrlicher zu führen. Sie sollte mehr gehört werden.

Für die ArchDaily 2025 Building of the Year Awards werden alle auf der Architekturplattform ArchDaily im Jahr 2024 veröffentlichten Projekte nominiert. Der Preis wird in 15 Kategorien verliehen und die Gewinner über ein Online-Voting in zwei Stufen ermittelt. In der ersten Phase kann bis zum 11. Februar 2025 die online Community pro Kategorie jeweils einen Favoriten auswählen und ihm seine Stimme geben. Je Kategorie kommen dann fünf Finalisten in die zweite Wahlrunde, in der vom 12.2.2025 bis zum 20.2.2025 wieder online die Sieger bestimmt werden. On 6 December, Marion Gentges, Minister of Justice and Migration, and Gisela Splett, State Secretary for Finance, officially handed over the new building at Holzmarkt to Freiburg District Court. Located in the courtyard of a listed perimeter block development, the extension serves as a central reception building that complements the historic existing buildings. The facade of the new building, painted entirely in porphyry red, echoes the sandstone of the old building and creates a harmonious link with the historic surroundings. With a usable area of around 3,500 square metres, the new building has significantly improved the working conditions and facilities for the judiciary. Marion Gentges, Minister of Justice and Migration: "With the extension of Freiburg District Court, we are sending a clear signal about the indispensable role of the judiciary - especially at a time when the principles of the rule of law are no longer taken for granted by everyone. We also want to place the judiciary, as both a representative and guardian of the rule of law, at the centre of our architectural design. The new building not only provides optimal working conditions but also reflects the responsibility we bear toward our employees and the citizens seeking justice." Our colleagues took part in the gingerbread house competition organised by Smow in Stuttgart - and made it to the winners' podium! With a great deal of dedication, attention to detail and lots of sweet treats, they created a small Christmas village that convinced the jury. Numerous different animals from five continents - sleeping, singing, running, big, small and even baby animals - form the basis of the refreshingly cheerful and colourful wayfinding system for the newly-built primary school on Karl-Marx-Ring in Munich. The templates for the animal images were created in a workshop conceived and led by architectural illustrator Sabine Heine with 25 third graders from the existing school, which had become too small. They drew 200 A3 sheets with almost 1000 individual motifs. The illustrator went through them all, sorted them and selected around 100 animal motifs. She then recomposed and vectorised the images, only making minor corrections and line thickness adjustments. All the animals are now at home in the primary school and help the youngsters find their way around. Jumping, flying and galloping animals show them the way to the sports hall, while voracious fish make themselves at home in the cafeteria. Each floor of the primary school is dedicated to a continent and its specific wildlife, helping the children identify themselves with the site and their classrooms. The signage concept is continued in the neighbouring House of the Children: In this day-care centre, baby animals welcome the infants and can also be found inside the building, while next door, songbirds are used to indicate the use of the building by the music school. The little artists have also found a place in the school: Their names have been immortalised in the cafeteria, reminding us that they have made a significant contribution to the creation of this cheerful and child-friendly concept.
