For several years now, British architectural photographer Marc Goodwin has been visiting renowned architectural offices around the world and taking a look behind the scenes with his camera. Archmospheres is the name of his agency, and it is in this spirit that he wants to capture the different atmospheres of the offices in his photos. At the end of this personal project, an architectural office atlas (Atlas of Architecture Studios) will be created. We are happy to be part of this special project with our Munich location.

New building for Leuschnerstrasse District School in Hamburg-Bergedorf The design envisages a school ensemble consisting of three different-height structures and a gymnasium. Arranged on the northern part of the site, they form a counterpart to the listed elementary school in the south. At the centre of the campus is the lowest structure, with three stories, containing the entrance area. From there, all the units can be reached via a basement floor that connects the individual building parts. Visually, a framework of pigmented precast concrete elements in warm red tones unites the individual cubes into a design unit that interweaves with the existing building to create an identity-forming school campus. The "green classrooms" on the upper floor are a special feature. The spacious outdoor terraces serve as communicative centres framed by the L-shaped building volumes. The green character of the school is emphasised by the design of the open spaces, the integration of the tree population, the facade greening and a learning and reading garden, and as an almost CO 2 -neutral building ensemble it also sets a very good example as regards sustainable construction. Our design, created together with Munich-based Rainer Schmidt Landschaftsarchitekten, was chosen out of a total of eleven submissions, and we now look forward to its joint realisation. We are delighted that the extension of the district office in Starnberg has been nominated for the German "DAM Prize for Architecture". For 15 years, the Deutsches Architekturmuseum has nominated 100 remarkable buildings or ensembles, since 2016 also taking into account suggestions from the German architectural associations. The nomination is recognition of a project that answers the questions of sustainability and how to deal with existing buildings in a special way. The finalists will be announced in October 2022. We are grateful to have won 1st prize in the competition for the new community centre in Weil im Schönbuch near Stuttgart. Our design convinced the jury with its sensitive engagement with the existing place. The creative dialogue with the team of ghl landscape architects from Freising made a valuable contribution to this result. We congratulate the entire competition team and look forward to a new beginning into a new course of project planning. The assignment by the municipal council is expected to follow by the end of this year. In addition, we would like to emphasise the public participation that took place early in the process as an ideal start for the development of the new centre.

Im nichtoffenen Realisierungswettbewerb für eine 3-Feld-Sporthalle in Stuttgart Nord teilen wir uns den 2. Preis mit einem Mitstreiter. Unter den 11 Teilnehmenden wurde weder ein erster noch ein dritter Preis vergeben, jedoch gab es drei Anerkennungen. Nach einer Phase der Überarbeitung ging der endgültige Zuschlag an das gleichplatzierte Büro Schulz und Schulz aus Leipzig. Als einer von vier Finalisten wird der Erweiterungsbau des Landratsamts Starnberg mit dem „Deutschen Nachhaltigkeitspreis Architektur 2022“ nominiert. Mit der Erweiterung ist es gelungen den Bestand aus dem Jahr 1987 behutsam und zeitgemäß fortzuführen, so schreibt das Protokoll zur Nominierung. Die von der Stiftung Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis und der DGNB ernannte Jury würdigte den Holzhybridbau für seine vorbildliche Fortschreibung der modularen Architektur und sieht hierin Beispielcharakter: Das Erweiterungsprojekt Landratsamt Starnberg überzeugt durch sein Gesamtkonzept, das hoffentlich zum Prototyp wird, wenn es darum geht Bestand klug weiterzudenken: gestalterisch, energetisch, holistisch. Nach zweijähriger Corona-Unterbrechung wurden in diesem Jahr die Architektenturniere Coppa Oliva in München und das Fieldsoccer in Stuttgart am Samstag 23. Juli parallel ausgetragen. Die Münchner Fußballer*innen erreichten Platz eins und konnten sich damit bereits die dritte Olive auf dem Trikot sichern. Platz acht gab es für die Stuttgarter Kolleg*innen. Der Spaß kam bei beiden Turnieren nicht zu kurz. Belohnt wurden unsere Sportler*innen zum Ausklang mit Abendrot über den Olympiadächern und guter kulinarischer Versorgung am Fuße der Weinberge. On Wednesday, the exhibition "The Olympic City of Munich" opened at the TUM Museum of Architecture. Numerous visitors attended the opening, held in the central foyer of the Pinakothek der Moderne, where they listened to opening speeches by Andreas Lepik (Director of the TUM Museum of Architecture), City Planning Officer Elisabeth Merk, Regine Keller (Head of the TUM Department of Architecture) and Exhibition Curator Irene Meissner. Finally, Fritz Auer (at the time a partner in the office Behnisch und Partner) talked about how this unique project came about and the challenges faced at the time in designing and implementing the world-famous tent roof. He has written down his memories of the time in the book "Ein Zeltdach für München" ("A tent roof for Munich", published by Allitera Verlag), including in it documents, newspaper clippings, sketches and photos from the period. The large-scale exhibition with numerous previously unknown documents and models can be viewed at the TUM Museum of Architecture until the beginning of 2023.

Since 2007, the DAM Prize has been awarded annually for outstanding buildings in Germany. This year's award ceremony took place at DAM Ostend in Frankfurt on 27 January 2023. We are delighted that our project "Extension of Starnberg District Office" has been awarded the DAM Prize 2023. Peter Cachola Schmal (Director of the DAM Deutsches Architekturmuseum), together with Christina Gräwe and York Forster (Deputy of this year's DAM Prize and curator team of the accompanying exhibition), guided the evening’s proceedings and introduced this year's award-winning buildings. Professor Fritz Auer, Project Manager Dominik Fahr, Daniela Sacher and Heinz Wendl (Construction Managers) as well as Starnberg District Administrator Stefan Frey jointly accepted the award. The Deutsches Architekturmuseum writes: "The extension of the Starnberg District Office by Auer Weber impressed the jury. Ultimately what won them over was the harmony between the existing building and the extension. It is rare for an old and a new building to come together so harmoniously, not least because the same architects were at work here 35 years apart. Today, therefore, it takes a keen eye to spot where the existing buildings ends and the extension begins, which proven and valued attributes of the existing building have been continued, and where contemporary modernisation has taken place but with a new character still taking hold." "I am delighted that the intensive work on the sustainable development of our government building has been honoured with this prestigious award for building culture," explains District Administrator Stefan Frey, who attended the award ceremony together with District Treasurer Stefan Pilgram, and Project Manager Hans-Michel Lemmer from the Starnberg District Office. "The District Office has been an open, welcoming place for everyone since the beginning. The courage and foresight to build in this way are rewarded not only with this prize, but with highly attractive places to work and spend time for decades to come," Frey continues. Project
