We are pleased about the progress of the project Glemstal School for the communities of Schwieberdingen and Hemmingen. The existing school will be refurbished and also enlarged. On Thursday 19 May the start of construction was officially celebrated with the ground-breaking for the new extension building . All representative parties were present, the mayors of the two communities, the school headmistress, the responsible school board member, the regional manager of the construction company Goldbeck as well as our project team from Auer Weber. Due to the presence of dwarf bats in the school, the renovation of the existing building will be postponed until autumn next year. Until then, the relocation is to be carried out as gently as possible with the help of the conservation authorities. In the meantime, the new building will be constructed as a modular system within the shortest possible time. Further Information

Since 2017, Charlotte Depondt has been running the bilingual podcast Com d'Archi, which focusses on architecture, landscape architecture and design. Her guests include internationally active designers and planners. Charlotte Depondt has now been in conversation with Markus Hennig (in French) and Moritz and Philipp Auer (in English). Both podcasts can be listened to on Apple Podcast and Spotify. Markus Hennig Le hors normes et l’ordinaire: deux sujets sportifs en France The Auer Weber office is known for its sports architecture, including the Vaires-sur-Marne water sports base for the 2024 Olympic Games (with APMA) near Paris. While the 200-hectare water sports park is embedded in a historic landscape area, a sports and urban park has been created in the centre of the city of Clermont-Ferrand. Markus Hennig, an associate of the office, tells the story of these two very different project challenges. Moritz und Philipp Auer Architecture as a performance space Moritz and Philipp Auer were born in the heart of the Olympic space, so to speak. Today, they are two of the five managing directors of the renowned German architecture firm Auer Weber. In this issue, they talk about the DNA of their office from their personal perspective. We would like to thank Charlotte Depandt for the inspiring exchange of ideas and the great podcast recordings. Images © Ulrike Myrzik

Preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games are well underway. The capital is being decked out for the Olympics, athletes are arriving and stands are being erected at the various venues - including at the Île-de-France Olympic Aquatics Centre, which we designed and built. About 30 km from Paris, the Olympic Aquatics Centre is one of the venues for the 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in France. It is home to the largest white water centre in Europe and will be the venue for the rowing, kayaking, canoeing and slalom competitions. Since its completion and official opening, it has been open to international elite athletes as well as amateurs and the general public. Situated on the banks of the Marne, the 200-hectare Vaires-Torcy water sports park is set in a historic landscape. From north to south, a lively plateau rises up from the flat area on the eastern edge of the lake, housing competitive sports, accommodation and public water sports facilities. The various facilities appear very homogeneous due to the reduced choice of materials - exposed concrete and wood. The facades of the buildings arranged beneath the plateau use polycarbonate panels, a material used in boat building. We are delighted that our design has been awarded 2nd prize and congratulate our competition team! The jury praised the clear and concise division of the design into three interlocking buildings. It was impressed by the clever positioning on the site and the well-thought-out internal organisation, which, despite the cramped conditions, enables a good connection between the Neckar cycle path and the main entrance. According to the jury, the large entrance with a foyer and open area is particularly noteworthy. It provides a direct view and easy access to the outdoor pool and ensures a logical and sensible distribution of the swimming areas for school classes and swimmers. The optional sauna area on the 2nd floor offers attractive views of the outdoor pool and the River Neckar and can be omitted without compromising the overall design. More information on the project
