Before Munich City Museum closes its doors to the public for the coming years in January 2024, an extensive programme of events called HIN UND WEG will take place. As a kick-off event, the museum talk "City Museum of the Future. General Renovation, Conversion and Redesign of Munich City Museum" will take place on 8 November 2023 at 6pm, during which Moritz Auer will present the plans and the architectural concept of our office for Munich City Museum. On the podium afterwards will be City Director Detlev Langer, Moritz Auer and Museum Director Dr. Frauke von der Haar together with the moderator Anna Kleeblatt. The BDA has awarded Prof. Fritz Auer an honorary membership. BDA Executive Board member Katja Knaus presented the award certificate to Prof. Auer at the event to present his book "Meine Lebensreise als Architekt" (My Life Journey as an Architect) held at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design. The BDA awards honorary memberships to individuals who have made special contributions in line with its goals. The BDA said about Fritz Auer: "Fritz Auer is influential – both as a person and as an architect. With his optimistic pioneering spirit, his courage to try new things and his desire for collective action, he inspires people. His architecture radiates this zest for life, and ranges from daring constructions to buildings that, with great sensitivity to people's expectations, shape the ordinary into something special. His numerous award-winning works have shaped architecture in Germany as a magnificent lifetime achievement. By awarding him an honorary membership, the BDA also wants to honour Fritz Auer's approach and values as an architect. His understanding of architecture, according to which he builds for people and the specific location, is both inspiring and groundbreaking. His reputation is based on an approach characterised by appropriateness, social responsibility and a focus on human scale. Relevance is achieved in architecture for Fritz Auer when the architect represents society and not himself. It is this requirement for his own work that releases enormous future potential, including for future generations of architects. The jury's statement: The new cafeteria is located underground at the intersection of two pathways on the educational campus, but at the same time forms a pleasant landscape sculpture in the built surroundings on the large square lined with educational buildings. Like an eruption of clods of earth, the entrance and exposures open up and reveal a variety of views into and out of the dining room, which surprisingly is flooded with daylight. The organically shaped and multi-curved bulges form a new centre above ground offering high amenity quality and unique indoor and outdoor experiences. More about the project

The latest and eighth stamp in the popular special-issue stamp series depicts the Munich U-Bahn station "Westfriedhof". The station, designed by Auer Weber, was built from September 1993 to July 1996 in the north-west of the city and opened on 23 May 1998. According to Deutsche Post, it is: "one of the most attractive underground stations in Munich in terms of design and leaves a lasting impression on many passengers. Many tourists as well as many locals and newcomers consider it the most beautiful station in the entire subway network." On 28 September, the groundbreaking ceremony took place for the new Computer Science and Mathematics building. Together with Angela Dorn, Hessian Minister for Science and Art, Michael Boddenberg, Hessian Minister for Finance, and Prof. Enrico Schleiff, President of Goethe University, project manager Jörg Müller broke ground for the new university building. The new building will allow Goethe University to bring together the institutes for Computer Science and Mathematics on the Riedberg campus, whereas both are currently located on the Bockenheim campus. The building will enable the exchange of knowledge between the two institutes and at the same time form an important urban building block for the further upgrading and sustainable development of the entire Riedberg campus. OFROOM visits Auer Weber in Munich Material for the Future – Presentations in the Pecha Kucha Format On Thursday 13 June 2024 at 7 pm, together with OFROOM, we invite you to short presentations in the Pecha Kucha format focusing on selected materials for sustainable construction. Innovative materials and products from the OFROOM Material Service Tool will be presented in the Pecha Kucha format with entertaining presentations of 20 ppt slides x 20 seconds each. Material samples will be available. OFROOM is an innovation agency for architecture based in Vienna. Since autumn 2021, the OFROOM team has been working on a material service for architecture that is strictly oriented towards sustainability. This Wednesday, 17 April, the topping-out wreath for the new administrative building of the Kreissparkasse Böblingen was raised and the topping-out ceremony celebrated together with the client, the construction companies and the planners. Thanks to the mild winter and the hard work of everyone involved, the shell of the building was completed on schedule. The natural stone facade is currently being installed, while work has begun on the interior to install the building services and fit out the interior. In the future, around 50 employees will be working in the consulting centre on the ground floor and in the modern offices on the upper floor. In addition to the headquarters building, the surrounding area with four residential buildings is also being redesigned. "Today is a day of celebration. Leonberg is getting a new urban highlight and the Kreissparkasse will serve as a focal point for affordable housing in a central location," said District Administrator and Chairman of the Board of Directors Roland Bernhard as he welcomed the guests. In his speech, the Mayor of Leonberg, Martin Georg Cohn, emphasised the importance of the new Sparkasse building as a gateway to the Old Town and thanked those involved for the successful collaboration: "We consider the new site to be an important part of the development and revitalisation of Leonberg." The "Stade nautique Olympique d'Île-de-France", located about 30 km from Paris, is the first completed sports facility for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games; it will be the venue for rowing, canoe racing and canoe slalom. Organised by the Île-de-France region and supported by the French government, the stadium is already open to international athletes, amateurs and the general public. Overlooking the 2024 Paris Summer Games, the Vaires-Torcy whitewater stadium has been renamed "Stade nautique Olympique d'Île-de-France", the Île-de-France region's Olympic water sports stadium, and is the largest whitewater centre in Europe. Many guests from the world of politics and sport - including the Minister of Sport, Roxana Maracineanu, the President of the region, Valérie Pecresse, the President of the Organising Committee of the Olympic Games in Paris and three-time Olympic champion in canoeing, Tony Estanguet - celebrated the opening of the new facility last week, as did the numerous visitors who enjoyed the expanded recreation area and the wide range of water sports available to everyone. Léon Grosse (construction firm), Auer Weber, and Panorama Architecture (local partner) were one of the four teams to reach the final round of the Design & Build Competition, held by the city of Marseilles for the modernization of the Stade Nautique du Roucas Blanc as the venue for, among other things, the sailing regatta of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. In reference to the history of the location, our design is an interpretation of the form of an amphitheatre and fits quite naturally into the environment. The “Voil’Odrome” enters into a spatial and social relationship not only with its immediate surroundings but also with the sweeping coastal landscape of the Mediterranean. In this respect, functionalism, sustainability and progressive qualities are of great significance. Unfortunately, we failed to gain the commission for the design of the marina by only a narrow margin. The competition was won by a French team.
